Range Rover 3.6 TDV8 EGR cooler delete

A recent job we had come in, was for an L322 Range Rover 3.6 TDV8, for a water leak.

desfinately split!

Upon inspection it was the radiator hose that had actually split, however upon inspection we noticed the thermostat housing had seen better days too, so that was replaced.

Think its seen better days

But to change thermostat housing, you need to move one of the EGR coolers, but we didn\’t just move it, we removed it along with the other, re worked the pipes, and blanked off the egr system completely.

Here are some of the commonly cited benefits of EGR blanking:

  • Increased power and torque: By reducing the amount of exhaust gas that is recirculated back into the engine, blanking the EGR system can potentially increase the engine\’s power and torque output. This is because the engine is able to draw in more fresh air, which can lead to better combustion and more power.
  • Improved fuel economy: blanking the EGR system can lead to improved fuel economy. This is because the engine is able to operate more efficiently when there is less exhaust gas being recirculated back into the intake system.
  • Reduced maintenance costs: EGR systems can sometimes cause problems such as clogging, which can lead to expensive repairs. By blanking the EGR system, these potential issues can be avoided.
  • By completely removing the egr coolers, the engine runs cooler too, reducing exhaust gas temperatures.

Whilst we were in there we changed all 8 glow plugs too.

8 glow plugs changed

Now we are on to the tuning side of things, but we will be removing the secondary cats on this vehicle first.

The vehicle at present only has mechanical tuning mods with a back box delete, and it is already quicker than remapped other 3.6 TDV8\’s we have tuned.
